In The Face Of
Stress & Anxiety
Welcome to our Parenting and Reflection (P.E.A.R) Group!
For Caregivers of Children and Youth in grades 5 - 8
This FREE parenting program is for parents and caregivers who are looking to strengthen their family’s ability to ‘bounce back’ from life’s challenges. In these introductory-level information sessions, you will learn strategies that can help you and your children learn to be more resilient in the face of stress and anxiety. This is a key skill for both caregivers and their children to develop, and can support overall family wellness.
In these workshops, caregivers will receive practical information, share parenting tips, practice skills, and participate in group collaboration, reflection, and support.
Your child or youth in grades 5 – 8 is invited to attend sessions #1, #4 and #7.
About the Group:
This session will introduce parents to the concepts of stress and resiliency and participants will discover how supportive relationships – with our children, with others, and with ourselves are the place to start when building resilient families.
In this session, parents will learn how the home environment has an impact on their child’s stress and anxiety and how they can support their child’s resiliency by ensuring their basic needs are met through household structure and healthy habits.
Regulate My Response to Stress
In this session, both parent and child will learn about how stress is an important player in our healthy development. Participants will learn how the body reacts to stress triggers and ways they can notice and begin to regulate their own stress response.
Use Coping Skills
In this session, parents will continue to learn strategies for helping their child address stressful challenges through coping behaviours which help their child to have choices, solve problems, and discover their strengths.
Optimistic in My Thinking
In this session, parents will take a look at how our negative thoughts can limit our resilient response to life’s stressors. Participants will discuss strategies to address their child’s worries, encourage realistic thinking, and develop a growth mindset.
Compassionate, Kind & Grateful
In this session, both parent and child will learn about our brain’s tendency to focus on the negative and how we can transform our outlook and rewire our brains through regular activities of self-compassion, kindness, and gratitude.
