Supporting Self-Regulation in Students

Audience: School professionals working with elementary age students (grades K-6)

Self-regulation refers to how efficiently and effectively a child deals with a stressor and then recovers. The goal is to create “calm, alert, learning”. The ability to self-regulate, so to be calmly focused and alert, greatly impacts how well students do in school and later in life.

In this 2 hour course:

  • Learn about why self-regulation is as important as learning ABCs or 123s
  • Learn how self-regulation skills develop and the processes that influence this skill
  • Identify how self-regulation influences your student’s learning
  • Review the signs of self-regulation difficulties
  • Learn tips on how to use positive communication skills with students
  • Build strategies to enhance self-regulation
